Total Equine Vets selected for mentoring NOVA Veterinary Technician Students

Striving to lead in education, TEVA is pleased to participate in teaching programs.  We were chosen as a large animal veterinary practice to help educate and inspire in key areas of excellence that NOVA targets. 

Over the next few months, you may see Dr. Jay Joyce and Technician Gail Figgins shadowed by students.  TEVA has been selected to participate with the Northern Virginia Community College (NOVA) Veterinary Technician School.  TEVA was chosen from a handful of local horse vet practices based on our experience, case load, desire to educate, reputation, and outstanding clientele.

These students are observers only, and will not distract us from our duties.  Our commitment is to you.  The students are accumulating 24-hours of large animal veterinary experience toward eventual Virginia state licensure as veterinary technicians (L.V.T. -- like Gail).

Many of these students have no horse experience and will stay in their familiar small animal vet clinic setting after graduation.  These students have college-sponsored insurance and liability coverage, as does TEVA.  But again, they are only here to observe.

So if you see a student riding with us, please welcome them.  Know that they are not distracting us, that they will not be directly involved with the visit, and that they are very impressionable. Most of them will be hired by local small animal veterinary clinics, and you may be entrusting your dog or cat pet care to them sometime soon.
Anyway, please welcome these students to your farm.  This is our chance to impress them.
