This time last year we started our hunt for a third veterinarian to join our TEVA team. Finding a perfect fit of personality, philosophy, and skills to expand our practice was not an easy task, but we've certainly found it in Dr. Elizabeth Coppelman.
Many of you have had the pleasure of meeting her, but we thought we'd share a bit more about her background and her journey.
"I had an absolutely wonderful experience with Dr. Coppelman and was very grateful that she was able to come out so promptly to see my horse. She was very knowledgeable and thorough, and took the time to go over the horse carefully and answer all of my questions. I'm thrilled that she's joined TEVA's team and very much look forward to working with her in the future!"
"Dr. Coppelman was great. She was very in tune to my horses. She was very careful to sedate both horses appropriately, given both of their history’s and my input. She took her time, never rushed, remained calm and soothing to her patients, despite the hot temps. She answered all my questions with respect and intelligence."
"I have been more than pleased with Dr. Coppelman’s treatment of my horse. She is very professional and has made decisions for and with us as though my horse was her own. Dr. Coppelman has answered my many, many questions and has taken the best care of us."
"She was thorough, explained everything she was doing, and is very personable."
Dr. Elizabeth Coppelman has been practicing equine surgery and medicine since 2013. She grew up in Alexandria, Virginia and competed in the Northern Virginia hunter/jumper circuits. Dr. Coppelman attended the University of Florida and obtained a degree in Animal Sciences, with emphasis in biology. She achieved her doctorate in veterinary medicine at The Ohio State University in 2013. Dr. Coppelman then completed a rotating internship at Alamo Pintado Equine Medical Center in Los Olivos, California in 2014. After her internship, Dr. Coppelman went to the University of Minnesota for a dual large animal surgery residency and Master’s Degree program. Her research focused on osteoarthritis of the hock in older horses. Dr. Coppelman stayed at UMN as a clinical instructor in large animal surgery and sports medicine this past year. In addition to her western medical training, Dr. Coppelman is certified in equine acupuncture, and has completed both the basic and advanced courses at the Chi Institute. In her spare time (which has been sparse), Dr. Coppelman enjoys riding her horse, Simon, and spending time outdoors with her three dogs - Brewski, Lily, and Griffon. After 12 years, Dr. Coppelman could not be more excited to come back home to Northern Virginia and join the TEVA team. She looks forward to using her advanced Western and Eastern medicine training to provide the TEVA clients with the best possible multi-modal and individualized care.
